The boys in One Direction may be covered in ink -- especially Harry Styles -- but that doesn't mean they should encourage their young fans to get tattoos as well.
According to published reports, the guys came under fire over the weekend when they encouraged their fans via Twitter and Facebook to send in photos and videos of their 1D tattoos, along with an explanation of why they should be featured in the upcoming 1D movie. The only problem is that the legal age to get tattooed in the U.K. is 18, and many 1D fans are younger than that.
Many responded with fears that that the note would encourage fans to run out and get tattooed to have a chance of appearing in the movie. In fact, according to the Daily Mail, one fan responded, "I shall now go beg my dad for a tattoo even though I'm only 13 haha."
The post and tweet were subsequently taken down on Sunday, and the Daily Mail quotes the band's spokesman as saying, "This tweet was posted in error...One Direction do not want to encourage any of their fans to get 1D tattoos."
That may be, but Harry has added to his seemingly endless gallery of body art, inking a giant butterfly across his torso, according to E! Online. The singer is believed to have around 30 different tattoos.
